In 2017 I created the Worthy Hearts project, consisting of over 800 hearts, hand-carved and painted purple with gold lettering, meant to be reminiscent of the Purple Heart awarded to soldiers who were wounded or killed in combat. At the beginning of the pandemic, I felt unsure of my future. So I turned to a source of comfort, the familiar, and painted this still life of the worthy hearts that hang on the wall in my studio.
